Meet Tina!
Tina the day she came |
So very little; pictures don't do justice to her size |
Tina came into our lives on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. She was 1 1/2 weeks old at the time, but only 29 1/2 weeks gestation. She weighed 2 lbs and 5 ounces. Tina was abandoned at birth.
The day she came to us was the same day she was released from the hospital. She had been on a feeding tube. That first night at home, it became very clear that Tina was not strong enough to get her nutrition from a bottle. Thursday, I took her back to the pediatrician and had the feeding tube put back in. It was a bit intimidating, but the poor little thing just expended way too much energy just getting a little formula from a bottle. She was taking about 1/2 an ounce, but it was taking her an hour and a half.
Tina has now been with us 2 1/2 weeks; she went off the feeding tube on the 9th of December (by her own doing...) and since the Dr. was going to remove the tube on the 11th anyway, we figured we'd just let Tina have a go at feeding from a bottle and see how she does. She's doing great!
As of last Monday, December 4, Tina weighed 2 pounds, 15 1/4 ounces. She is currently 17 inches long.
Tina will be with us a while yet, I think. She's a precious little thing. Sometimes, I think she almost smiles. She is attentive, aware, and turns to look at us when we talk to her. She's doing great on her preemie formula - not spitting it up like Chloƫ always used to do.
This is with the feeding tube on Dec. 4th |
Now this is Tina yesterday. Wow! What a difference just a couple of weeks and some good food and good love makes!!
